What is blue coolant?
A blue engine coolant temperature light only indicates one thing: that your coolant, or antifreeze, is too cold. In fact, the temperature is so low that it is possible for your radiator to get too cold, thus resulting in your engine freezing up and not being able to start.

What happens when you use the wrong coolant in a BMW?
Mixing or using a coolant that is not recommended for a vehicle can lead to corrosion and damage not just to the engine but to components such as the water pump, radiator hoses and cylinder head gasket. The colour of the coolant is not a reliable indicator of compatibility. Also, the water pump can overheat and fail.
Can you mix coolant colors BMW?
Yes, you should drain it ASAP and thoroughly flush with distilled water. BMW uses a HOAT antifreeze whereas dexcool uses OAT. They may or may not be compatible with each other, but it’s not a risk you should take.
